1941

Late Sri Ram Chandra Sah, a farmer and the owner of ponds in Madhubani, Bihar spotted the makhana seeds in his ponds and on realizing its health benefits – started popping them for personal use. Being a purposeful person, he determined to harvest this seed and spread the health benefits,

 

1960

By 1960, we owned ponds in the Madhubani region of Bihar to cultivate seeds and trade the raw makhana. People started recognizing him as a famous

“MAKHANAWALA” in his fraternity.

 

1987

The second generation, Sri Bijay Kumar Sah (Eldest son of Sri Ram Chandra Sah

” Makhanawala”), who highly believed in fitness & healthy life took the family business to the next level. First makhana merchant to market this product globally and 1″ to introduce marketable convenience packaging under the well-known brands ‘MP Gold’ and ‘Phool Makhana. This expanded the growth of Makhana abundantly.

 

2014

With the opportunity of Makhana being a big ‘Healthy Snack’ in India and overseas we set up scalable production in Bihar. We reached our growers network to 5000 farmers. WE ARE GROWERS, WE ARE MAKHANAWALAS’ revolution milestone.

 

2016

3rd Generation Alpana Jayant Sahane Daughter of Sri Bijay Kumar Sah), an Agricultural Science Graduate and MBA, took the family business to another level and launched roasted and flavoured healthy Fox Nut snacks in India and for Export under Makhana Wala’s ®. Our in-house new state-of-the-art facility in Pune for flavoured makhana was established.

Quality has always been a crucial aspect of a food product. While delivering healthy and super food like makhana we have always kept quality at the forefront. Right from growing to processing and packaging, excellence is the only measure we have been following. It is a plant product and we know how to handle it with minimal process to keep it natural and intact with nutrition.

We are a food processing company working under the guidance of the Darbhanga Makhana Research Institute and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

About Makhana

Healthy, Tasty &  Easy. It is a superfood for all ages. As we all know Makhana is known to India as a perfect and filling snack for small hunger.

Technically speaking, makhana is a Gorgon. Nut or a Fox Nut which is an aquatic crop (Water Lily Pops) extensively grown in the stagnant water of wetlands, tanks, ponds and lakes. It’s a highly nutritious and naturally organic non-cereal food.

It is widely distributed in tropical and north tropical regions. It’s mainly cultivated in the state of Bihar, West Bengal and Assam in abundance.

Bihar alone accounts for more than 80 per cent of the Makhana production of the country.

Good source of protein, carbohydrates, fibre, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and zine.

➊ High in fibre and low in calories enables weight loss.

  • Its low sodium and high magnesium content makes it beneficial for those suffering from heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.

➋ It contains an anti-ageing enzyme, which is said to help repair damaged proteins.

  • Its glycemic index is significantly lower than most high-carbohydrate foods like rice, bread, etc.
